When you start talking about accessories for your Harley Davidson then you have to be careful to balance the functionality that you can gain versus and detriment you might encounter from the looks. It's a very fine line between looking cool and riding comfortably on your Bagger all day long. Many a Harley owner has selected a low profile seat because of the way it "looks" on the bike as opposed to a seat that is more appropriate to their riding style. We've tried a few seats on our 2009 Street Glide and have found a decent balance between looks and comfort with the C&C Flame Stitched Solo seat that we are running today.
If truth be told though, we certainly could have selected a more comfortable seat, but we would have traded away some of the drop dead sexy good looks that the C&C solo seat brings to the table. The C&C looks amazing and is reasonably comfortable but for all day touring we would prefer a different seat.
Now in case you haven't priced Harley Davidson aftermarket seats lately then you should know that they aren't cheap and it's not economically feasible to have one seat for touring and one seat for around town so instead we went looking for options. We settled on this Airhawk Motorcycle Seat Cushion that employs what they call their Shape Fitting Technology. This same technology is used in wheelchair cushions and hospital mattresses so you know it should be comfortable. The premise is simple and the cushion basically consists of several soft, flexible air cells that are interconnected by small air ports that allow air to flow from one cell to another. This technology is meant to protect the rider from hot spots, pressure, friction and vibration.
The Cruiser Medium (approximately $189.95) Airhawk (measures 14x14 inches at the widest point) would fit a stock Street Glide's seat almost perfectly. We were pretty impressed with the cushion on the first ride but we haven't logged a solid full day in the saddle yet. We will report back after we get some miles on it but at this point, we're feeling optimistic.
