Personal Review

Bub Jug Huggers

bubjughuggersI was at my Harley Dealer the other day checking out Street Glides and I saw a bike with an absolutely awesome pair of pipes on it and I am seriously considering yet another pipe change. For those who don't know me, I think I enjoy working on my Harley more than I do riding it. I am an admitted pipe junkie and I just like to experiment. It's a curse.

The pipes that drew my eye turned out to be a set of Bub Jug Hugger pipes and they were on a 2005 Softail that was set up just right for my taste. To me, right is lowered, black and loud, just like any Harley should be. (j/k) I spent a few minutes admiring the Jug Huggers and talked to the owner to see what he thought of the pipes, what better source of advice than someone who owns them. Below is kind of a synopis of our discussion.

Jug Hugger Fit and Finish

I haven't installed these pipes just yet, yet being the key word, but I can tell you what I observed and what the owner had to offer on the subject. The chrome on the Jug Huggers looked great and was very deep and "lustrous" like a good pair of harley pipes should be. The heat shields on these pipes were a full 2 1/2 inch shield that gave them an awesome "fat" pipe look and they were capped off with a SWEET set of billet aluminum end caps, even better looking than the Rinehart endcap, which looks great in my opinion.

According to the owner, the install was pretty simple and straightforward, as most Harley pipes do. It isn't exactly rocket science. I know a lot of new owners have never worked on a motorcycle before so it seems intimidating but it isn't. I have likely installed a dozen or better pair of pipes myself and it's typically pretty easy. If I can do it then anyone can and I wouldn't pay a dealer to do it, it's too easy to do it yourself.

Jug Hugger Performance

bubendcapsI don't have any dyno charts to work from and can only tell you what the owner of the bike relayed to me but he was quite happy with the performance of his Jug Huggers. This was not his first Harley nor his first set of pipes and he was quite satisfied. I have a feeling I might be trying a set of these in the near future, so I will share my results in more detail then.

I will say that he made it clear he bought them more for the looks and sound than he did for the performance. After seeing them in person then I'd say he made a great choice. I think I like these pipes better than anything I've ever seen, it's got to be the turn downs. They are awesome looking in my opinion.

I did check out the Bub site and if you are a performance junkie then you will be happy to know that the Jug Huggers are equipped with a Max Flow baffle for maximum power. A stealth baffle and a torque chamber are available to give you some tuning options. I would assume the stealth baffle is a quieter baffle and the torque chamber will allow you to tune for low end and mid range power.
Jug Hugger Sound

I made sure to listen to him take off from the parking lot to see if they sounded as good as they looked and I was not disappointed. I personally prefer a pipe that has a deeper note to it with more bass I guess is how I would describe it.

These pipes definitely fit that bill, I expected them to be loud and obnoxious and while they definitely had a bark to them, it was not an obnoxious exhaust note at all. They sounded as good as they looked.

I have some videos in the next tab that will let you see them in action and better yet, hear what they sound like. Video can be deceiving but it's the best I can do via the internet.

Conclusion

bubjughuggers2If you can't tell I was quite enamored with these Bub Jug Huggers. I guess they just have that perfect "look" for me and I am seriously going to contemplate replacing the D&D Fat Cat on my 2007 FXSTB with these pipes. My bike is slammed and the Fat Cat is just not a friendly pipe for a lowered bike.

If you are looking for a great set of pipes that look great, perform great and sound great then I would give the Bub Jug Huggers a pretty serious look. They are one of the nicest looking pipes I have seen on a Harley Davidson. If you DO end up buying them or if maybe you already own them then please do me a favor and scroll to the bottom of the page and leave a review of what you think of the Bub Jug Huggers.
