One of the first things I knew I would change on my 2007 FXSTB Night Train was the stock speedometer. Why you might ask, because the stock one is butt ugly and I was going to build a bit of a hotrod Harley out of it and I wanted a tachometer. The stock speedo just screamed BORING and didn't suit my taste at all. So one of the first hits to the bank account was a new Spun Aluminum face combination speedometer/tachometer. Not only is the built in tachometer very functional, but it's drop dead sexy looking and jazzes up the instrument console nicely. The Part# for my model is (PN 74718-07, $499.95) but that changes depending on your model, you can look yours up here.

If you aren't sure if you can install this then take comfort that it is remarkably easy and I think just about any bike owner could easily make this change. The only thing you will need the dealership for is to reflash your correct mileage on your new odometer. You don't want to mess with mileage tampering and devalue your motorcycle. If you choose not to have your speedo reflashed then I would note the actual mileage and date that you changed the speedo on a sticker on the back of the new speedo/tach and make sure you disclose this at time of sale.

Installation is very clear-cut. First just note the odometer reading as discussed, then remove your seat and disconnect the battery cable. Then it gets simple, remove the acorn nut holding the console to the tank and unplug the wiring connector from the old gauge. You can pop the speedometer out of it's cluster, reinstall the new speedometer in it's place. Plug the connector back in and reinstall the console.

The new spun face aluminum speedometer/tachometer looks amazing and it works great. My Night Train is a 120hp hot rod Harley and it simply won't do to not have a tachometer on a motorcycle like this one. It's a spendy piece but it looks great and works great and fits the bike like OEM so in my opinion it's worth the money. You may be able to find a great deal though below.
