Mustang Tripper Review
I recently upgraded the seat on my 2007 FXSTB (Nightrain) from a LePera Bare Bones solo to the Mustang Tripper Solo and I wanted to share my thoughts on this seat. I know how hard it can be to find quality products online and how expensive Harley Davidson accessories can be.
Why a New Saddle
The LePera Bare Bones solo was like riding on a brick. It was not very comfortable but that isn't the seats fault. It doesn't really claim to be a comfortable seat, it claims to be a good looking seat and it is. I bought it for looks so it's my own fault. At the time I bought it the selection of seats for the wide tire softails was almost non-existent, as this was a new model but now a few years later, that has changed.
In 2009 there are a number of choices for a quality Harley seat for the wide tire softails and the Mustang Tripper is one of them. I wanted a seat that still looked great but would also offer some comfort for my aging butt and spine. I dug around on the internet a little bit and found a seat from one of my favorite seat companies ever..Mustang seats. The Mustang Tripper Solo looked to be just what would satisfy my needs. I knew Myrtle Beach Bike week was coming up and that Mustang would be there so I bided my time.
Mustang Seats
On the first day of the event I tracked down the Mustang tent so that I could see a Mustang Tripper in person. Once I found it, I have to say it was love at first site. I could tell just looking at it that it would be way more comfortable than the LePera seat was. It has a bit more padding, so it isn't quite as sleek and low cut as the Bare Bones but it's still an awesome looking seat and the tradeoff in comfort would be worth it. I also liked the texture on the seat cover, the Bare Bones is shiny smooth and looks odd against the finish of my Denim Train, the Mustang Tripper cover has a texture to it. It makes it look great and this may be silly but it simply looks like a better quality seat.
So far so good, but the proof is in the pudding. I ponied up the bucks for the saddle and bought the pillion pad to match as well. I rarely ride double but at least I have the option to if I want to now. So after a few hundred miles in the saddle, I have to say it's a WINNER! The Mustang Tripper is infinitely more comfortable to ride than the LePera was, which is no surprise. Mustang has long been one of my favorite seats and the Tripper is no exception.
Mustang Tripper Rocks!
The Mustang Tripper is a definite keeper for someone that wants a balance between a sleek and great looking saddle that will compliment the lines of their motorcycle and also wants a seat that is comfortable and fun to ride. If you are someone looking for a motorcycle seat that fits that description then I would definitely recommend the Mustang Tripper as an option. I will update this review after I get a thousand or so miles in the saddle to let you know how it's going but I expect nothing but good things.
Enjoy the Ride!
