I recently purchased a 2009 Harley Davidson Street Glide for a number of reasons but one of which was that I wanted more ability to carry items with me. The 2009 Street Glide definitely affords much more room than my 2007 Night Train does but one thing quickly became apparent, all of the storage is behind me and I can't reach any of it under speed. The Street Glide is great but it offers no place to put your keys, sunglasses, cell phone or anything small that you might want to grab quickly.
Obviously a windshield bag was in order but not just any bag would do, I had seen one on a motorcycle that looked like it was molded into the bike and was almost a factory install. I did a little searching and found out that the Harley windshield bag that I was searching for was a T-Bags Windshield bag and I had to have one. I was able to locate one on ebay and quickly scarfed it up. It appears that T-Bags cannot keep up with demand as these things are on national backorder as I write this review. Hopefully that will change in the near future.
T-Bag Windshield Bag Construction
The T-Bags windshield bag is sweet. It's molded to conform to match the inner fairing of your Harley Davidson touring bike and it fits like a glove. The T-Bag isn't real leather, which is it's only real downside, but it feels to be extremely good quality and appears to be very solidly constructed.
The T-Bag windshield bag doesn't claim to be waterproof but not many bags truly are and despite this rating, I haven't had any water issues with mine yet. I don't often ride in heavy rain anyways but you should be aware of it though.
T-Bag Windshield Bag Installation
I installed the T-Bag windshield bag on my Street Glide in about 5 minutes, it installs that easily. You simply loosen the three allen screws holding the top part of the outer fairing to the bike. Do not remove the screws but simply loosen them up a few turns. Once you have them loosened up then slide the T-bag down in behind the windshield between the inner fairing and the windshield. This is really self explanatory once you see it. Once it is snug and in place, tighten up the 3 allen screws that you loosened at the start.
I think a blind monkey could install this thing in about 5 minutes. Some riders have reported vibrations from there T-Bags but mine is snug and nice and doesn't make a peep. A few small pieces of double sided tape to hold the back side of the T-Bag to the windshield would cure any vibration but I don't think it's an issue. This bag is wildly popular and I've only seen one or two complaints so I think it is probably an installation issue.
T-Bag Review Conclusion
If you are looking for a super cool looking and very functional windshield bag then I would highly recommend the T-Bags unit. It is head and shoulders better looking than anything Harley Davidson is putting out and the bags are very roomy and spacious. I could only find two downsides, they aren't made of leather and the flaps close with velcro. I'd prefer that it use a magnet to hold the flap down but that's a problem that is easily remedied if it becomes an issue.
As I said earlier, at the time of this writing, the T-bag windshield bag was on backorder from T-Bags but hopefully that has changed. They were selling for as much as $75.99 after the law of supply and demand drove the prices up. Check out the listings below and see if any are currently available.
